WASHINGTON, D.C. | August 5, 2021 — National Whistleblower Center’s (NWC) annual National Whistleblower Day celebration this year was the largest whistleblower event in history. National Whistleblower Day 2021 featured more than 60 speakers who made up more than a dozen panels and was attended by nearly 10,000 people. This year’s historic speakers included a wide range of government leaders from regulators like SEC Chair Gary Gensler to leaders of the House and Senate Caucuses on Whistleblower Protection and Marty Walsh, Secretary of the Department of Labor.
NWC received more than 1000 RSVP submissions, and even more whistleblower supporters attended the event with close to 10,000 people from North America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Australia tuning in over three days. This robust attendance reflects the strong public interest in whistleblower protections that was first captured in a 2020 Marist pollconducted with the support of NWC.
Siri Nelson, NWC Executive Director, said, “The outpouring of support we saw at our 2021 National Whistleblower Day celebration was remarkable. Together, NWC and the event attendees made history and showed whistleblowers that they are not alone. I am overjoyed to have been at the helm of this year’s celebration and hope that our program last week brings more people into the fold and encourages them to take action for whistleblowers. Hopefully, the success of this event will help Congress see that it is time to make National Whistleblower Day permanent so whistleblowers will have the stability of knowing that they will be celebrated every year on July 30th.”
Featured speakers ranged from whistleblowers such as Kimberly Young McLear, Thomas Le Bonniec, and Allison Gill; to government leaders such as Senator Charles Grassley, Secretary Marty Walsh, SEC Chair Gary Gensler, Representative Jackie Speier and Senator Tammy Duckworth; to whistleblower experts such as NWC’s Stephen Kohn, Taxpayers Against Fraud’s Jeb White, Project On Government Oversight’s Melissa Wasser, Whistleblower Summit and Film Festival Organizer Marcel Reid, and whistleblower attorney Mark Zaid.
NWC will be announcing more virtual events like National Whistleblower Day this Fall. Please join our mailing list to stay updated.
