WASHINGTON, D.C. | July 28, 2021 — Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) will speak in support of whistleblowers at the National Whistleblower Day 2021 celebration on July 29th at 12:08 PM EDT.
Wyden has shown strong support for whistleblowers throughout his time as a legislator. He sponsored several bills advancing the rights of whistleblowers, including the COVID-19 Whistleblower Protection Act, which aimed to increase whistleblower protections for people who blew the whistle on misuse of government funds, intended to be used for relief from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wyden has also supported Senate resolutions designating July 30th as National Whistleblower Day to honor the first whistleblower law passed in the U.S. on July 30th, 1778.
Wyden is a founding member of the Senate Whistleblower Protection Caucus. In his National Whistleblower Day address, Wyden will speak about the current state of whistleblower protections in the U.S. He will touch on further steps to protect and encourage whistleblowers to step forward to report fraud.
Members of the media are encouraged to RSVP for National Whistleblower Day 2021 for updates and a link to join the event.
