WASHINGTON, D.C. | July 28, 2021 — On July 29th, Secretary of Labor and former Mayor of Boston Marty Walsh will deliver keynote remarks at the National Whistleblower Day 2021 celebration. This year’s event will be held as a virtual conference spanning three days from July 28th to July 30th and is hosted by the National Whistleblower Center.
As the head of the Department of Labor (DOL), Secretary Walsh is in charge of the federal agency tasked with the oversight of over 20 different whistleblower statutes, by far the most whistleblower statutes enforced by a single agency.
The parent agency of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), the DOL oversees investigations into whistleblower retaliation cases concerning COVID-19 and workplace safety. The DOL also enforces laws protecting whistleblowers who disclose a wide range of other violations, from nuclear waste issues to aviation safety concerns.
“Secretary Walsh is a vitally important figure in the enforcement of whistleblower protection statutes,” said NWC Executive Director Siri Nelson. “We are tremendously pleased that he will be speaking at National Whistleblower Day and are looking forward to hearing his thoughts on whistleblower issues.”
The keynote remarks for this event begin at 11 am EDT on July 29th, 2021.
Members of the media are encouraged to RSVP for National Whistleblower Day 2021 for updates and a link to join the event.
