WASHINGTON, D.C. | February 4, 2022 — To commemorate the 159th anniversary of the False Claims Act, National Whistleblower Center (NWC) is hosting a virtual celebration with FCA experts and whistleblower advocates on March 2.
The FCA is the landmark American whistleblower law: since the crucial 1986 amendments, it has been used to recover more than $70 billion in taxpayer dollars. Fiscal Year 2021 was the second largest ever, with $5.6 billion recovered. Unfortunately, this success has not been evenly distributed. Though recoveries continue to climb, whistleblower awards dwindle, due largely to a decrease in qui tam cases pursued by the Department of Justice.
To protect the FCA and reverse the whistleblower decline, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) has worked with colleagues on a new set of amendments that would change the materiality provision for cases. NWC has advocated for the swift passage of Sen. Grassley’s amendments, and encourages individuals to contact their representatives.
The newly released FY2021 report highlights the importance of a strong FCA moving forward. To learn more about the FCA, details on how to join the virtual event, and other breaking news, RSVP today!
