WASHINGTON, D.C. | July 27, 2021 — A panel of experts will participate in a major U.S. whistleblower conference to discuss the European Union (EU) Whistleblower Directive and the state of whistleblower protections in Europe. The panel is part of the 2021 National Whistleblower Day event hosted by the National Whistleblower Center (NWC). The virtual conference takes place from July 28th to July 30th. Led by the Executive Director of Whistleblowing International, Mark Worth, the panel will begin on Wednesday, July 28th at 10 AM EDT as part of the day’s programming, “GLOBAL WHISTLEBLOWERS! Advocates from Around the World.”
The panel will focus on the implementing and transposing of the EU Whistleblower Directive into law by all 27 EU member countries who must transpose the Directive into their national law by December 2021. Panel experts will discuss the adoption of the Whistleblower Directive and the current status of whistleblower protections in the European Union. In 2019, the EU passed the Whistleblower Directive in order to erect greater protections for whistleblowers by shielding them from retaliation and creating “safe channels” to report violations of the law.
Mr. Worth will be joined by SpeakOut SpeakUp CEO Wendy Addison, Transparency International Slovakia Project Coordinator Zuzana Grochalová, and Recht en Raat Founder Caroline Raat.
Members of the media are encouraged to RSVP for National Whistleblower Day 2021 for updates and a link to join the event.
