What is National Whistleblower Day?

National Whistleblower Day is a day in which we celebrate the bravery and heroism of whistleblowers across the United States and the historic contributions they have made to society, democracy, and to anticorruption efforts across the globe. National Whistleblower Day commemorates the nation’s first whistleblower law, which was unanimously signed into law during the height of the American Revolution on July 30th, 1778.

Every year since 2013, the Senate has unanimously recognized July 30th as National Whistleblower Day, and every year since 2015, National Whistleblower Center has celebrated the day on Capitol Hill in July.

Support National Whistleblower Day

Despite 13 years of unanimous recognition from the Senate, National Whistleblower Day is yet to be recognized through an Executive Order. An Executive Order would mandate that all federal agencies to recognize the day and implement whistleblower training for their employees. It would honor the contributions of past whistleblowers and make National Whistleblower Day a permanently recognized day! Join the grassroots campaign started by whistleblowers Jane Turner, Sherron Watkins, Fred Whitehurst, Bunnatine “Bunny” Greenhouse, and Aaron Westrick to call for an Executive Order to make National Whistleblower Day permanent.
