Ending Retaliation Against Whistleblowers
Since 1988, the National Whistleblower Center has been at the forefront of protecting employee whistleblowers across the United States. These individuals have “blown the whistle” on a wide range of issues, such as misconduct in the FBI, the improper use of subpoenas to obtain journalists’ records, and the failure of government officials to protect the environment, illegal storage of hazardous waste, health concerns related to dioxin, dumping of raw sewage and wastewater violations, and nuclear accidents. In addition to obtaining relief for individual whistleblowers, the Center has won precedenting setting cases, establishing whistleblower protections for employees. These cases include a landmark decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit recognizing the constitutional right of a federal employee to obtain injunctive relief in federal court under the First Amendment.
